After the long-running third-generation Mustang came to an end the prior year, Ford introduced the fourth-generation Mustang in 1994. For the first time, a fastback model was not available. The base Mustang featured a 3.8 L V6 which produced 145 hp. The GT model used a 4.9 L (302 cubic-inch) V8 which produced 215 hp. The Cobra model used a 5.0 L V8 and produced 240 hp. The Cobra also featured a unique front bumper and special wheels. The Cobra convertible was selected as the official Indianapolis 500 pace car.
