There are a lot of ideas thrown around the internet and newspapers lately about how we should all either rally behind the auto industry, or perhaps we should just let them fail. Techcrunch has a fantastic article outlining the reasons to let them fail. I’m of the opinion that the auto industry needs to change radically in this country. The whole thing is broken. CEO’s are getting paid millions to run their companies into the ground. Auto workers want raises when their companies aren’t profitable. There are too many brands, too many models, and their marketing of huge trucks when gas is $4 a gallon made no sense at all. The whole industry is broken. Period.

I can see why many people would like to see the car companies fail. After all, they’ve really done it to themselves. Anytime you have a company from overseas who builds products in your country better than you can do it, you have a huge problem. It is just a mess.

What I would advocate is something intelligent that doesn’t involve the catostropic failure of the industry. I think you could restructure the entire company payscale in an intelligent way that would allow executives to be paid reasonably, instead of costing millions a year in salary, stocks, and perks. Restructure how workers are paid, kill pension plans and make them 401k’s. End this string of corporate welfare and kill all these mega-dealerships that have thousands of cars on their lots that they have no intention of selling.

Actually, come to think of it, maybe we should just let the auto companies burn. Short of a catostropic failure, I don’t see how they’ll make all these necessary changes. After all, if they wanted to change, they could have when Toyota and Honda started beating them left and right the last decade or so.

The other day I noticed a peculiar looking new Mustang in the parking lot. Now normally this would not have really been anything I cared too much about however this time was different. So, what made this vehicle so much different than the rest? Well to begin with it wasn’t a bad looking car in fact you might even call it a pretty nice-looking car. The difference is that while normally I would look at this Mustang as one awesome looking car — I mean beautiful, new, shiny chrome rim, the whole nine yards, but unfortunately this car was not that beautiful car that I normally see. It was not that fantastic new Mustang. Nope, this vehicle had a lone stripe, that is a lone offset stripe offset, not centered which looked gross.

They might be thinking to yourself, offset stripes are cool right? the answer my friend is sadly no they are not cool in fact they are the opposite of cool they are kind of dumb looking. I mean for some people maybe it’s cool that this vehicle was like black with an offset maroon stripe. I still know what they were going for. It’s almost like they thought that it was still the 70s or 80s and it was cool to have cars with goofy looking stripes that aren’t even centered. But come on! Why take a beautiful piece of machinery like the Ford Mustang and ruin it with a non-symmetrical stripe? It doesn’t look cool it just makes what is otherwise a beautiful machine into something ugly.

It’s sort of like if you took a beautiful Apple laptop or iMac or Cinema Display, something really cool like that, and you said okay let’s cover it with Dell stickers and a Microsoft badge and a giant Pentium logo and anything else we can do to make it look dumb!!!! That’s not cool. It doesn’t make it look awesome.

It just makes it ugly. What if it was your child? Would you put an offset stripe down your child’s back or face? Absolutely not, so why would you do that to your Mustang?

Next time you’re deciding that you need to put a stripe or badge or maybe some neon lights on the underside of your vehicle, think to yourself: would you do that your child? or more importantly if you are a child would you think if your parents did that to you? Would you want to walk around with some goofy looking offset striped down beside your face or back? If the answer is no don’t do that your vehicle is just not right.

The GT500KR (KR = “King of the Road”) was an upgraded version of the GT500. The 5.4L supercharged V8 of the GT500 is modified to produce 540 hp, partially thanks to a new hood with functional air intake. The hood also added tie-down pins. The suspension was also completely reworked and is unique to the GT500KR. The sole color is silver with blue stripes. Special 40th anniversary badges for the 2008 GT500KR celebrate the 1968 GT500KR. Only 1000 GT500KRs were produced for 2008.

The GT500 featured extensive modifications from normal Mustangs the most significant of which is the engine. A 5.4L supercharged V8 is the heart of the GT500 and it beats strong with 500 hp and 490 ft·lbf of torque. Other modifications include 6-speed manual transmission, upgraded suspension, and new body panels. The GT500 was produced for 3 years (2007, 2008, and 2009) and approximately 10,000 units were produced each year. Also, a convertible version of the Shelby GT-H was offered at Hertz for rental in 2007.

After a successful run of 2001 Bullit Mustangs, Ford created another throwback with the introduction of the Mach 1. The Mach 1 used a 4.6 L V8 based on the 1999 and 2001 Cobra, with cylinder heads from the 2003-2004 Cobra. The engine produced 305 hp. The interior had features to make it look like Mustangs from the 1960s: comfort-weave seats, retro gauges, and an aluminum shifter. The exterior had effects to match the 1969 and 1970 Mach 1s: unique hood with “Shaker” scoop, rocker panels, front spoiler, flat-black rear spoiler, and modified C-pillar.

The 2003 Cobra received a big change under the hood. The engine remained a 4.9 L V8, but a supercharger was used helping it produce 390 hp and 390 ft·lbf. To deal with the increased power, the previous 5-speed was replaced by a heavy-duty 6-speed. It is widely accepted that Ford actually grossly underated the output; the engine actually produced closer to 430 hp and 430 ft·lbf
